SD Eibar has officially inaugurated its new Areitio sports city, an 11-hectare complex representing an investment of around 30 million euros. Funded by the club's own resources and LALIGA Impulso funds, the facility consolidates all of Eibar's sporting operations for the first time in a single location at Alto de Mallabia.
The complex features five football pitches and a main building with a stand for 1,620 spectators. The centrepiece is the 3,000-square-metre high-performance building for the men's first team, designed by KREAN. It includes changing rooms, a gym, recovery areas, technical and operational spaces, a dining room, and a press room, incorporating aerothermal systems and photovoltaic energy.
Until now, the club's operations were scattered. The men's first team used Atxabalpe for eleven years, from 2014 to 2025, on loan from Arrasate Town Council. The academy operated in spaces like the Chancha Zelay esplanade and Unbe facilities. Areitio now becomes the central hub for the men's first team, women's football, and all youth categories.
Club president Amaia Gorostiza highlighted the moment's significance. "Ipurua has been our home for almost eighty years, but what we are inaugurating today is the place where this club is formed, from the academy to the first team," she said.
LALIGA president Javier Tebas linked the investment to long-term growth. "LALIGA Impulso aimed to enable clubs to invest in what truly makes football grow in the long term. Areitio is this objective made reality," he stated.
The inauguration was attended by Lehendakari Imanol Pradales, First Vice-President of the Basque Government Ibone Bengoetxea, General Deputy of Gipuzkoa Eider Mendoza, RFEF president Rafael Louzán, and the mayors of Mallabia and Eibar.
This institutional leap comes during a period of strong sporting performance. Eibar sits second in the Segunda División with 12 points from five games, just one point behind leaders Castellón. The team is on a four-game winning streak, most recently a commanding 0-4 win over Celta de Vigo B, with their next challenge an away trip to Eldense this Saturday. Fans can track the team's progress on our standings page and view the full schedule on fixtures. Centralising the academy at Areitio will facilitate the application of shared criteria and methodologies across all youth categories.
