Eibar secured their sixth consecutive victory on Saturday with a hard-fought 3-2 win over UD Las Palmas in matchday seven of LaLiga Hypermotion. The triumph at Ipurua solidifies Gaizka Garitano's side in second place in the Segunda División, having taken 15 points from their opening six fixtures.
The first half was a whirlwind of goals. Ander Madariaga opened the scoring after six minutes following a pass from Malcom Adu Ares. Almost immediately, Álvaro Rodríguez doubled the lead with another assist from the same player. Las Palmas pulled one back through Valentín Pezzolesi in the 23rd minute, making it 2-1 at the break.
Martón's clincher
The second half began more cautiously, but Eibar found what seemed to be the decisive goal just after the hour mark. Top scorer Jon Guruzeta, who has three goals this season, provided the assist for Javier Martón to finish in the 61st minute. The forward, who is not an out-and-out striker, has explained his value to the team. "He has three goals and is the team's top scorer." Guruzeta said of his own role.
Las Palmas refused to give up, however. In the 84th minute, Jefté Betancor converted a pass from Elías Romero to make it 3-2 and set up a nervy finish. The tension peaked in added time when Las Palmas' Iñaki received two quick yellow cards, resulting in a red for a second bookable offence. Referee Lax Franco, assisted by VAR official Caparrós Hernández, oversaw a match that also saw bookings for Álex Suárez, Bonfanti, Iván Jaime and Kirian.
The result extends Eibar's perfect run to five wins from their last five matches, leaving them just one point behind leaders Castellón. The team has scored 12 goals while conceding only four so far this campaign. Their next fixture is an away trip to face bottom side Albacete on Thursday, 3 October.
