SD Eibar's seven-game winning streak in the Segunda División was brought to a halt by a 3-1 defeat away to Real Oviedo on Monday. The league leaders fell behind after just three minutes and were unable to complete a comeback despite a second-half goal from Iván Gil.

The game could not have started worse for Jokin Arambarri's side. After only three minutes, Mikel Goti opened the scoring for the hosts with a powerful strike from outside the box that beat Jonmi Magunagoitia. Eibar tried to react and created several clear chances, but they found an inspired Aarón Escandell in the Oviedo goal. The home keeper made at least three key saves, including a header from Jon Bautista and an effort from Guruzeta, to keep a clean sheet. Just before halftime, Carlos Domínguez extended the lead by finishing from close range, making it 2-0.

Yes. Eibar came out with more determination after the interval and, following several substitutions, got a goal back. In the 74th minute, Iván Gil pounced on a loose ball inside the six-yard box to rifle a shot past Escandell and reduce the deficit. The goal brought hope to the visiting team, who pressed for an equaliser in front of over 20,000 fans at the Carlos Tartiere. However, just as they were getting closer, another long-range strike from Carlos Domínguez in the 85th minute sealed the victory for Oviedo.

The defeat represents a setback in the impressive run the team had been on. It ends a streak of seven consecutive wins that had taken them to the top of the table. Arambarri has said his team "competed, but we weren't sharp in both boxes". With this result, Eibar temporarily surrenders top spot and must regroup for their next fixture.
