Eibar strengthened their lead at the top of the Segunda División with a hard-fought 1-3 away win at Albacete on Thursday. Gaizka Garitano's side came from a goal down to secure their fifth consecutive victory, staying first with 21 points.

Pejiño sealed the 1-3 scoreline in the 94th minute with a left-footed strike following a counter-attack. The Eibar player capped a fine collective performance that had started poorly. Rober González had put the hosts ahead in the 3rd minute, a goal that gave Albacete the lead until halftime.

The Armeros fight back

The second half told a different story. Ander Mada, also known as Mada, levelled the score just three minutes after the restart with a shot assisted by Iván Gil. The equaliser boosted Eibar's confidence and they pressed until they forced a mistake. In the 66th minute, a cross into the box ended up in the net after a deflection off Albacete defender Lluís López, who scored an own goal to turn the match around.

Albacete, with Agus Medina and López himself booked, tried to respond but found no way through a solid Eibar defence. Goalkeeper Jonmi Magunagoitia made several key saves to preserve the lead. Eibar managed the closing stages and found a final flourish in stoppage time through Pejiño, who finished a counter-attack started by Javi Martón.

With this result, Eibar extends their winning streak to five matches and consolidates their position at the summit of the table. The team has scored 18 goals and conceded only seven, showing impressive balance. Top scorer Jon Guruzeta, with three goals this season, did not score but his work was important in the build-up play.

The leaders' next fixture is a trip to face Real Oviedo on October 12th. The Armeros face a demanding schedule which fans can check on the fixtures page. The squad, in excellent form, aims to maintain this momentum in the push for promotion. The team travels to Asturias in high spirits after a comeback that shows their resilience.
