On-loan winger Elijah Gift produced a viral dance celebration that has delighted Eibar fans following the team's victory last weekend. The player's moment came after the Basque club secured its fifth consecutive win, a 3-2 result against Las Palmas, to solidify second place in the Segunda División table with 18 points.
Eibar has started the season in brilliant form, with six wins from seven matches. Its only defeat came on the opening day against Tenerife. The win over Las Palmas came just days after the inauguration of the club's new sports city.
Gift's arrival
Elijah Gift joined Eibar on loan at the start of September. The left-footed winger, described as fast and direct, has already made two appearances for the first team, playing 22 minutes in his second outing. His debut came two weeks prior against Celta B. Gift, born in Corella but raised in England from the age of nine, was signed by Athletic Club from Liverpool's academy in July 2023 for €1.5 million, becoming the first transfer fee approved by president Jon Uriarte.
In Saturday's match, Eibar also benefited from strong performances by other players with Athletic backgrounds. Malcom Ares provided the two assists for Eibar's opening goals, scored by Ander Madariaga and Álvaro Rodríguez. The third goal was netted by Javier Martón, another former Lezama player. The victory keeps the team in the promotion race, just one point behind leaders Castellón.
Gift's celebration, captured in the Ipurua dressing room, has become a symbol of the positive mood in the squad. One fan, Ekain, commented on social media: "Carismático a mas no poder, el alikate este nos va a dar muchísimo jsjsjjsjsj si lo quiero un ápice más creo que reviento." Eibar now turns its attention to the next fixture, a visit to bottom-placed Albacete on Thursday, aiming to extend its winning streak. All the details on upcoming games are on our fixtures page.
